SPA to pave way for govt formation: Prachanda

Kathmandu, May 8:

Maoist chairman Prachanda today said that a meeting of the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA) scheduled for tomorrow would begin discussion on the formation of a new government based on the people’s mandate.

He claimed that the people had given the Maoists a mandate to lead the new government and draft a new constitution.

“Tomorrow’s SPA meeting will open the door for the formation of a new government which will come into effect within three weeks from now,” Prachanda said, addressing a programme organised by Rolpa-Kathmandu Republican Forum to felicitate 10 Rolpali leaders elected to the CA from different districts.

He also appreciated the Rolpali people’s courage and their support even during the most difficult period of the People’s War.

He said the first meeting of the CA, which would take place within 21 days from the date of publication of the final list of all CA members, would formally end monarchy and execute a republican order.

“On that day, Nepali people will really become sovereign for the first time in history, and the feudalism will come to an end once and for all,” he said.

“Before the April 10 polls, I had said that a miracle was going to happen,” he said, adding: “After the first CA meet, Nepali people will show another miracle, that will march the country towards prosperity.”

Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the election had created a new power balance in Nepali politics, and it had authorised the Maoist and Prachanda to lead the post-election government.

Besides Prachanda and Mahara, Barshaman Pun, Jhakku Prasad Subedi, Jayapuri Gharti, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, Onsari Gharti Magar, Tara Gharti Magar, Khuma Subedi and Santoshi BK were also felicitated.
