KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 20

Polling for election of representatives to the Federal Parliament and Provincial Parliament has begun across the country today.

While the voting process is being conducted under normal circumstances in various parts of Nepal, there have been instances of disturbance in several places that have disturbed polling.

Police have apprehended cadres of Communist Party of Nepal (Bahumat) for conducting anti-election activities in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Likewise, voting in Budhiganga of Morang had been suspended after miscreants burst fire-crackers inside the polling centre, which had created a ruckus.

Similarly, polls have resumed in Khairapur of Bardiya where the process had been halted for around and hour after an explosive device was detonated right outside the centre.

Improvised explosive devices were found in Khairapur, Rajapur, Amraini and Mainapokhara in the district which have now been disposed.

In the meantime, security had to resort to firing shots in air in Tamakoshi RM-2 of Dolakha as a huge mob of people tried entering the voting station all at once. Shots were fired to take the situation under control as the mob turned to security personnel deployed at the booth to attack them.

Additionally, in Bajura, voting was suspended as dispute ensued in as many as three centres in the district.

Disputes between various political parties unfolded in Budhiganga -8, Budhinanda-5 and Swamikartik Khapar-4.

Polls were also halted in Brahmasthani of Chitwan-1 as cadres of Netra Bahadur Chand led Communist Party of Nepal tried to set the ballot-boxes on fire. Police has opened shots in the air to take the situation under control in the area.
