KATHMANDU, MARCH 26

The Department of Tourism has started issuing permits for the spring mountaineering season. So far, 58 climbers-40 men and 18 women-from eight mountaineering groups have obtained permission to scale various peaks, including Annapurna I.

Climbers from 24 countries, including Nepal, have received permits for mountaineering this season.

According to Department Director Liladhar Awasthi, permits for spring mountaineering have begun to be issued. "This season's mountaineering permits have started being issued, and permission for Everest climbing will be granted soon," he said.

"Climbing activities in the Everest region have increased," Awasthi added.

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has deployed icefall doctors to prepare the climbing route. A 10-member team has been dispatched to construct the path from the base camp to Camp II. Additionally, skilled climbers have been assigned to fix ropes from Camp II to the Everest summit.

The Expedition Operators' Association Nepal (EOA) has also appointed a team of 10 Sherpa climbers, led by Ashok Lama, to install fixed ropes along the route.

Spring is considered the ideal season for mountaineering, with a significant number of foreign climbers arriving in Nepal to scale peaks, including the world's highest, Mount Everest.
