DAMAULI, FEBRUARY 7

A squatters' settlement built on a strip of encroached forest land in Suklagandaki Municipality, Tanahun, was removed today.

According to the Division Forest Office, 20 houses built by encroaching on Taldanda-Dadarpakha-Kaseri Community Forest in Shuklagandaki Municipality, were removed from the area.

DFO, Tanahun, Chief Komalraj Kafle said the families were removed from the forest land with the help of police in line with the government rule.

"There were already some families living in the forest land but recently locals also started building homes here, so we had to remove the settlement," said Belchautara Community Forest Consumers Committee Vice-chair Binaya Bahadur Adhikari.
