Stadium demand prompts strike

Itahari, October 26

Residents of Itahari, who have been protesting the delay in the construction of a regional stadium here, have announced an indefinite general strike beginning Wednesday.

The meeting of joint struggle committee made the announcement here today.

According to a press release issued by assistant-coordinator of the stadium construction committee, Tanka Dulal, transport services, shops, businesses, industries, educational institutions and financial organisations would down their shutters until the government gives in to their demands.

Demanding the same, the organisers had brought transportation to a halt for an hour today as well.

The residents of Itahari, Inaruwa and Dharan of Sunsari district, however, have been demanding to make the regional stadium in their area. The government has decided it for Sunsari, though.
