Staff shut Rautahat municipalities protesting abuse against official

RAUTAHAT: All three municipalities in the district were shut for an indefinite period since Sunday, demanding actions against the political party leaders who allegedly abused Sunil Yadav, Executive Officer of Gaur Municipality.

Yadav was allegedly abused by the district chairman of Sadbhawana Party, among others, on Friday.

The dispute had started when Yadav rejected Sadbhawana leader Shekh Jamsed’s plea to forcibly release an amount of Rs 300,000, at the end of the fiscal year. Then, Jamsed and his followers had verbally abused the official.

Following the incident, members of the Local Bodies Employees' Union and Municipal Employees' Association Nepal (MEAN) declared the shutdown in Gaur, Garuda and Chandrapur Municipalities.

Executive Officers of Chandrapur Municipality and Garuda Municipality, Kiran Nidhi Tiwari and Jaya Narayan Sriwastav respectively, said that all the offices of three municipalities will remain closed until the abuser is arrested.

In a statement issued by Municipal Employees' Association Nepal (MEAN) unit chair Binod Paswan, it was said that the attackers entered Yadav's residence, abused and attacked him following his denial to work against the protocol.

It also stated that the workers resorted to the protest as they did not feel safe to work in the office since the suspect is still walking free.

Chief District Officer Madan Bhujel said that the local administration is investigating into the case and informed that if found guilty, action will be taken against the suspects.
