Staffer thrashed, RM office closed

Birgunj, June 3

Services at Parsa’s Jirabhawani Rural Municipality and all wards under it were disrupted today after employees took to agitation protesting a thrashing their colleague was subjected to yesterday.

Office assistant Shreeram Patel of the rural municipality office was injured when a group of youths under the influence of alcohol assaulted him while he was heading towards his Birgunj-based home last evening.

“He was riding home when three youths on a bike accosted him and beat him with helmet, asking why he had not given way to their motorbike,” said the rural municipality Chief Administrative Officer Amit Giri, adding the incident took place at Supaul on the postal highway. Patel has received deep wound on his head from the attack.

“As he couldn’t be treated at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, he was taken to National Medical College, where he is being treated,” said Giri.

Meanwhile, police in Paterwa Sugauli Area Police Office arrested the assaulters last night itself. The youths identified as Ashok Das, Rajesh Tharu and Sanju Mahato of Jirabhawani RM-4 are now in custody.

The agitating employees have said they won’t end the agitation until the police files an attempt to murder case against the youths.
