‘State should address UDMF’s demands’

Damauli, April 10

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel said today that the state has to address the dissatisfaction put forward by United Democratic Madhesi Front.

Speaking at a programme organised by Reporters Club Nepal, Tanahun today, the NC leader held that he would never think UDMF leaders would blockade the border again in the name of protest.

He was quite sure that Madhesi leaders would struggle to fulfil their demands through peaceful movement rather than a destructive one. “I am more confident that the Madhes protest will be non-violent rather than destructive,” he said.

Paudel said his party would not join the government at present but play an active role as an opposition. He said the Oli-led government was trying to extend its life by saying it would hold elections. “This is because of the keen interest in post and position,” he added. Paudel said the country could not develop until political instability ended.

Paudel added that there was need of uniformity in the party. “There is great responsibility on party President Sher Bahadur Deuba to lead the party,” he said. He said Deuba has to sort out all disputes inside the party.
