Statute draft full of confusion: Rana
AASays it brings to light differences between part
Pokhara, August 30 :
The chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Pashupati Shumsher Rana, today said the draft of the interim constitution is full of confusion and reflects differences of opinion.
Addressing the western regional party activists’ meet here, Rana said: “A constitution full of options will not help the nation to progress. The proposed draft of the interim statute reflects differences of opinion among the Maoists and the seven-party alliance. This statute cannot be in favour of the people.”
Accusing the government of preparing the draft without planning first, Rana termed it a “pseudo” statute. He said there were differences of opinion among some members of the alliance over the draft.
Rana urged the government to hold elections to a constituent assembly only after the issue of citizenship certificates of the Madhesi community is settled. He further accused the government and the Maoists of showing no concern for the people’s wishes.
Stating that incidents of robbery, murder, extortion and terrorism are taking place in broad daylight even in the capital, Rana accused the government of being unable to provide a sense of security to the people.
Stating that the seven-party alliance has been lingering on the issue of Maoists’ arms management for a long time now, Rana said: “The Maoists’ arms can be managed after bringing in a political package.”
Rana claimed that the RPP was playing the role of the opposition in the Parliament. He was of the view that his party was the only one pointing out mistakes of the government in the House. He said the government should decide on how much space should be given to the Maoists in the Parliament.
He further said that his party is against autocratic government and that it was playing an important role in rooting out autocratic regime from the country. “The RPP is in favour of restructuring the state,” Rana said.
Addressing the programme, general secretary of the party, Deepak Bohra, said the seven-party alliance is following autocracy by saying that there shouldn’t be an opposition party in the Parliament. He said that the party was discussing possible agendas to be taken to the people during constituent assembly elections.
Treasurer of the RPP, Surya Bahadur KC, accused the government of ignoring the “main issues” in the interim statute.
