KATHMANDU: Motorbikes stolen from Nepal are being sold in Khasa Bazaar, claims the Nepal Police.

"Chinese Police is least bothered about this issue," complains the NP unit deployed in Kodari, Nepal side of the border.

"Chinese Police do not check the documents properly. Once Rs 200 is paid to enter Khasa Bazaar, they do not even care whether the papers are original or duplicate. Due to the negligence on their part, stolen motorbikes get easy access to Khasa bazaar," says Sindhupalchok Inspector Madhusudan Silwal.

Silwal adds, "We have requested the Chinese Police many times to check this but stolen motorbikes from here are crossing the border easily. More than 100 motorbikes stolen from Nepal are in Khasa Bazaar. NP has no authority to do anything there".

"Recently we have apprehended 71 motorbikes in Sindhupalchok that were all set to go to Khasa. After investigation, we found that these motorbikes were stolen from Kathmandu and were on way to Khasa. We also detained 11 motorbikes from Tatopani Naka," claims Inspector Silwal. DIG Bigyan Sharma added, "NP is having bilateral talks with the Chinese Police regarding this. We have sent orders from the Nepal Police Headquarters to the NP personnel deployed in Kodari to check the blue books strictly and cross-check. We are doing our bit. But action has to be taken from both sides."

DIG Binod Singh complains, "This is a challenge for the traffic police. Daily three-four motorcycles are stolen from the Kathmandu Valley. We got the tip-off that some stolen motorbikes are going to Khasa. We sent our special team from MTPD for cross-checking and found 71 stolen motorcycles that were on way to Khasa. All the documents were found to be fake."

Nepal Police recently arrested 17 persons who were trying to cross the border with stolen bikes. They include: Arjun Gurung , Buddhi Pariyaar , Dhaan Bahadur Gimba , Upendra Nepal, Saroj Bom, Jayendra Tamang, Sagar Tamang, Sonam Tamang, Durga Lal Shrestha, Raj Kumar Moktan, Kaaji Lama, Duwa Lama, Surya, Jamsheed Ansari, Jiwan Shrestha, Ram Kumar Tamang and Krishna Prasad Simkhada.
