Storm destroys 30 houses

Nawalpur, May 22

As many as 30 houses were fully destroyed by a storm at Devchuli Municipality in East Nawalparasi yesterday evening.

The storm, coupled with rain and hailstones, had blown away roofs of around 300 houses between 6:00 to 7:00pm yesterday. No human casualty, however, was reported. The storm blew away the roofs of houses at wards 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, and 14. Electricity poles were also uprooted by the strong wind.

A team of technicians was deployed today to collect details of the damage from the municipality. Municipality chief administrative officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal said that details of the damage were yet to come as the team had not returned to the office till today evening.

The municipality has decided to provide Rs 20,000 to each of the families who lost their home as reparation.

Along with physical damage, the hailstones have destroyed crops as well.
