Storm kills one in Nawalparasi

Nawalparasi, May 12 :

One person was killed and his two sons were injured when two trees crashed on their house amid a storm at Sunwal VDC in Nawalparasi district last night. Property worth thousands of rupees was destroyed when the storm lashed Rupandehi district as well. The dead was identified as Jay Lal Chhetri, a peon at Sunwal VDC.

“The house was wrecked when the trees crashed on it amid a storm. Jay Lal was killed on the spot,” said a neighbour, Purna Bahadur Chhetri. One son sustained an injury on his leg while the other sustained injuries all over his body. Locals said they collected money and sent one of the boys to Kathmandu for treatment.

A report from Rupandehi said property worth thousands of rupees was damaged in the storm. “The storm blew away the roof of Lumbini Bus Terminal and tin roofs of many houses,” the Butwal area police office said.

Power supply was also affected from 8: 30 pm last night till this morning. The publications of local newspapers - Lumbini, Mechi Kali Sandesh and Naya Satta dailies - was hampered due to a power outage.

Police in Rupandehi said no human casualty was reported in the storm. The storm badly affected Maoist People’s Liberation Army soldiers living at the Saina Maina sub-camp, Maoist sources said.
