BAJURA, DECEMBER 9
Three children of Bajura's Badimalika Municipality-7, Jilli, who were stranded following the death of their parents have been rescued. The rescue happened after this daily carried a news story on their plight.
The Kathmandu-based Anath Asahaya Bal Sudhar Samaj (society) rescued the children. "We came to learn about the condition of the kids after reading The Himalayan Times and rescued them," said the organisation's Chairperson Ramesh Dev Sunar, adding the organisation would bear the cost of education and upbringing of the kids.
According to Badimalika Municipality-7 ward Chair Dharmaraj Padhya, Sangita Chadara, 14, Ramila Chadara, 12, Bibek Chadara, 9, and Bikram Chadara, 6, were left to fend for themselves after their father passed away in course of treatment in India five months ago.
Their mother had died six years ago itself after falling off a cliff.
"We all had gone to Simla of India for the treatment of my father after he couldn't be treated in Kathmandu for his kidney problem. We used to pick apples and father was being treated but sadly he couldn't make it and died, leaving us alone," recounted Sangita, the eldest of the four children.
Lacking their own home, they were taking shelter in other's home.
"Though the eldest of the four had left school long ago after her mother passed away, her siblings too had to leave school when they all went to India for their father's treatment," said the kids' relative Bir Bahadur BK, adding the kids were brought back to Nepal by raising a fund.
While Sangita has chosen to stay back in the village itself, other three have gone to Kathmandu.
