BAJURA, JUNE 2

Two siblings of Pipaldali of Budhinanda Municipality, Bajura, who were left to fend for themselves after their parents left them, were rescued.

This daily had carried a news report regarding the plight of the children in its December 15 issue last year. They were rescued by Lalitpur-based non-government organisation.

According to Children and Youth First Director Hausala Thapa, they took the responsibility for the upbringing and education of the rescued kids.

"We had read about their plight that they had virtually been left to fend for themselves after their parents broke their marriage and chose to marry different persons. Then we decided to rescue and bring them to our organisation in Lalitpur's Godawari," she said.

"The kids had been staying with their grandparents. However, they were left stranded as the old grandparents were not able to look after themselves, let alone their grandchildren," said neighbour Manabir BK, adding that the children's father was a freed haliya.

"As the grandparents were also barely scraping by, there was no way they could send the kids to school or feed them properly," said local Dhiru BK.

The children's grandfather Jungabir Lwar expressed hope that the kids would build a better future in a better place elsewhere.

Established some 13 years ago, Children and Youth First has been supporting the disabled, orphans, helpless children, and youths.
