Strikes affect life in Biratnagar

Biratnagar, May 23:

Public life in Biratnagar was crippled today due to separate strikes — one called by locals to protest the failure of the police to arrest the murderers of a local and another by students

to protest lack of school textbooks.

Locals organised chakkajam at different places from as early as 9:00 am to protest the police’s failure to nab the killers of Rajesh Thapa of Biratnagar-4, who was killed on April 28.

On the other hand, students shut markets to protest the unavailability of school textbooks even though a month has already passed since the new academic session began.

Meanwhile, the ANNFSU, Morang, today demanded authorities concerned to supply textbooks.
