Students end hunger strike in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ: Students who were on a relay-hunger strike in the district for the past four days ended the protest today after being assured of addressing their demands.

The protestors drank juices offered by Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katuwal to break their fast.

District Education Officer Dolraj Pandey, Chief of the National Investigation Department, Saptari Devraj Limbu and local media-persons were also present on the occasion.

Before the strike was ended, an agreement was reached with the protesting students to address their demands.

The students have been demanding an end to various problems in education sector in the district. Their demands include that schools should not be shut under any pretext of a strike or bandha and they be declared as completely zone of peace.

Other demands are that academic certificates of teachers should be checked and action should be taken against those found teaching by producing fake academic certificates.

"The strike ended after CDO Katuwal and DEO Pandey pledged to address our demands," said one of the protestors Mo Jakaullhaha, also Chairman of Laliguras Child Club which led the strike.
