Students' relay hunger strike in Rajbiraj on third day
RAJBIRAJ: The relay hunger strike held by the students in Rajbiraj for reformation in the district's educational sector entered its third day on Monday.
The hunger strike is being held at the Gajendra intersection of Rajbiraj at the call of Guransh Bal Club with a four-point demand, said Club's Chairman, Mo Jakaullah.
Jakaullah said the students were forced to hold relay hunger strike as a memorandum sent to the Prime Minister and Education Minister through the Chief District Officer on June 8 did not yield any response.
The students have demanded designating schools as zone of peace and make it immune to any general strikes, cross checking of the educational certificates of the teachers across the country, arrangement for stringent action if teachers are found to be carrying fake certificates, cost free registration form, examination form and practical exam form up to Grade XII and scrapping of the rule of paying additional charge for readmission when upgrading from one class to another.
They have further called for timely availability of school curriculum book, controlling the haphazard pricing of books, keeping the students separate during strikes and providing facilities to the Madarasa in par with other government schools.
More than a dozen organisations have already expressed their solidarity with the ongoing relay hunger strike. Jakaullah has warned of a second phase of protest if the relay hunger strike fails fulfill their demands.
