Students set Makwanpur Campus on fire over fee row

HETAUDA: Students on Wednesday set the Makwanpur Multiple Campus on fire over fee dispute.

Cadres of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), student wing of the UCPN-Maoist,  set ablaze the office room of the Chairman of the Management Committee.

The campus administration claimed that the students had hurled a petrol bomb while a meeting of the Management Committee was underway at around 10 am today.

Police have arrested Rajesh Maharjan, secretary of the Rastriya Prajatantrik Students Union of the Makwanpur Campus.

The students resorted to vandalism and arson attack after a dispute aroused taking the issue of exam form of the Bachelor first year.

The office rooms of Campus Chief Dor Mani Paudel and Assistant Campus Chief Rajendra Bhattarai were also damaged in the incident.

Following the incident, an emergency meeting of the Management Committee, Campus Chief and student unions among others said that the campus should not hesitate to take action against the wrongdoers.

During the meeting, Paudel said that those who were involved in the attack would not be excused at any cost. He further informed that investigation into the incident has already started.

The students have been demanding that they be allowed to fill up their exam forms by paying only exam fee while the campus has been saying that the students should clear both admission and monthly fees to fill up their exam forms.

Despite the attack, the campus informed that it would not stop distributing exam forms.
