Students vandalise campus

Nepalgunj, February 22:

A group of students today vandalised and torched the election office set up for the forthcoming Free Students’ Union polls on the Mahendra Multiple Campus, Nepalgunj.

The students, enraged after an unidentified gang looted documents relating to the FSU election from the union election office in the campus last night, vandalised the campus chief’s office and set fire to the election office of the campus.

Furniture in the election office was totally destroyed. Fire brigade personnel had to be called in to put out the fire. Meanwhile, the campus administration said the final list of names of candidates for the FSU election could not be published due to the developments. The campus administration and student unions are discussing the measures that can be taken to kickstart the FSU election.

The seven student unions in a joint press statement have called for continuing the election process without delay.

Signatories to the statement are campus FSU secretary Khagendra Prasad Khanal, chairman of the campus unit of ANNFSU Girendra Bogati, campus unit president of NSU Pushpa Raj Sharma, president of NSU-D Sulochana Tamang and Ganga Prasad Sharma of ANNFSU-U.
