Students’ enrolment drive gets more time
Kathmandu, May 3:
The Department of Education (DoE) has extended the duration of the door-to-door visit programme of the Students’ Enrolment Campaign (SEC).
“Reports have suggested that the student enrolment rate has increased drastically, mostly due to the door-to-door visit programme under the SEC,” Mahashram Sharma, director at Department of Education (DoE) said today.
“Since more students are willing to join the schools, we have felt the need to extend the duration of the campaign,” said Sharma.
The government has launched the Students’ Enrolment Campaign and School Welcome Campaign from April 15 to 23, while the door-to-door visit programme started from April 24 to May 1 with an aim to lure to schools the 12.6 per cent children who are still out of schools.
Sharma said the government has announced some incentives to bring more children to the schools, but funds for the same has not reached the schools due to some technical problems. The DoE has directed the authorities to speed up the process so that the schools get the promised funds on time, he said.
Reports received here have shown that the school management committees have very successfully handled the responsibility of helping get students’ birth certificates issueed, Sharma said.
