Relief materials were distributed among fire victims in a Dalit settlement of Durgabhagawati Rural Municipality in Rautahat.

Six houses were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out at the Dalit settlement in Ward 3 of the rural municipality yesterday.

CPN-MC youth leader Shambhu Singh distributed the food materials, clothes, soaps and Rs 1,000 to each victim . Singh said he had helped the victims with food materials that would last for two months. He added that daily wage earners faced problems after the incident.

Ward Chairman Dhamendra Kumar Jha said the had requested support for the victims. Following the request, the CPN-MC leader helped the fire victims. Jha said he had distributed rice, pulses, potato, cooking oil and tents, among other materials, to the fire victims.

Chairman Arun Kumar Sah of the rural municipality said rice, pulses, cooking oil and some zinc sheets were distributed to the victims. Sah said that Rs 40, 000 would be provided to victims, whose houses were completely damaged and Rs 20, 000 to those families whose houses were partially damaged, through the Local Disaster Management Committee.

The fire has spread from the house belonging to Gagandev Mahara while cooking food. Property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted in the blaze.
