KATHMANDU, MAY 16

Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal today issued a press release condemning the faux pas made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during his oath taking ceremony.

When the president was administering the oath of office and secrecy to PM Oli, he told the president that the words 'I sincerely and solemnly pledge' were not necessary.

JSP-N Chair Upendra Yadav said in the release that the mistake made by the PM during the oath ceremony seriously undermined the post of the prime minister and president. The party demanded that the prime minister retake the oath of office and secrecy. The party also said that the government had violated the principle of including ambassadors in the ceremony.

It demanded that the government ensure proportional inclusion of all marginalised groups and communities, including Madhesi, Janajati, Muslim, Dalit, women and Tharu in political appointments.

The party also demanded that the government ensure supply of medicines used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients and it told the government to provide beds, oxygen cylinders and ventilators to COVID-19 patients.
