Summit talks soon, says Sitaula

Kathmandu, September 8:

Ian Martin, the personal representative of UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, today met government’s talks team in order to know the latest development in the peace process.

Martin refused to divulge the details of the meeting held for one hour in the evening. “I am afraid I cannot make any public statement,” said Martin.

However, the government’s talks team leader and Minister for Home Affairs, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, said after the meeting that the “summit talks would be held very soon, we have been talking informally with Maoist leaders.”

He said the meeting was focused on the development in the peace process after the signing of the five-point agreement. He said that the issues of the management of arms and interim statute will be dealt simultaneously before forming an interim government.

“We apprised him (Martin) about the latest developments and dwelt on what can be done next. We also discussed the issue of implementation of the five-point agreement,” said Sitaula. Asked about summit talks, he said that the talks team would meet soon for finalising the dates for the same.
