A local youth club of Madi Rural Municipality in Kaski padlocked the Supermadi Hydropower Project office today.

Youths associated with Tangting Youth Club padlocked the project citing the latter’s apathy to implement the agreement struck with the locals some three years ago.

“The project had struck an 11-point agreement with the locals but it hasn’t been fully implemented so far, that’s why we had to padlock the project,” said the club treasurer HimalGurung. According to Gurung, five number point of the agreement has yet to be implemented.

“Though work related to other number of the agreement has started, or finished in some cases, nothing has happened so far when it comes to the 5 number point, hence the padlock,” Gurung explained.

As per the agreement, the project is obliged to spend 15 million rupees for local development. But nothing has happened so far towards this effect. “Thinking that the project would provide us the pledged money we also selected development project we would spend that money but to no avail. So far we’ve got a check bearing 5 million rupees but the check has bounced,” said Gurung.
