SC verdict sad, says UML
KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML opposed the Supreme Court decision to uphold the Election Commission’s decision to conduct re-polling in Ward No 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
A Standing Committee meeting of the principal opposition party held at party Chair KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot, passed a special proposal saying the SC decision disregarded the people’s verdict and created suspicion and worries that wrong precedent could be set in the future.
“The meeting hoped that people would take this decision seriously and voters of Bharatpur -19 would elect mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali to secure their verdict,” reads the statement issued by UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai.
The UML said that cadres of CPN-Maoist Centre deliberately tore ballot papers on May 29 after their candidate Renu Dahal was set to be defeated in the elections. The party said that tearing of ballot papers was against the established laws, democratic values and was a mockery of the generally accepted values of elections.
