Surkhet bridge collapse: One more body found, toll 17

Surkhet, December 27:

Police said one more body has been found in Chisapani of Karnali, taking the death toll climb to 17 after Tuesday’s bridge collapse at Suvaghat over the Bheri river of Surkhet.

Police said 19 missing have came into contact out of 37 missing. The Mehelkuna Area police office said 18 more missing are yet to come into contact. DIG of mid-western region Bharat GC said most of the disappeared have come into contact.

Rescue workers have been searching for the missing in river. A team of the Nepal Army from the Bardiya National Park has been searching for the missing.

Meanwhile, residents of Dahachaur have demanded that the suspension bridge be constructed and Rs 1 million be provided as compensation to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, final rituals of Yamun Srish, 4, of Shivanagar Gumi-3 have not been performed today evening since the child’s mother Bhimmaya Shris has gone missing. Her bag with her citizenship paper has been found out.

Body of Srish has been kept in his home. A local, Padam Bahadur Gharti, said six persons’ final rituals were performed in Gumi VDC.
