Sushil Koirala tells all to help make CA polls a success
Nepalgunj, March 7:
Nepali Congress acting president Sushil Koirala today urged all to work actively for the success of the CA polls in a peaceful manner.
Speaking at an orientation on ‘Method and Process of the Polls’ organised by the Banke chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) here, he said that the Maoists are not working to make an atmosphere conducive for the polls.
“The Maoists have not returned the seized land and houses yet. They, instead of returning the seized land and property to their rightful owners, are involved in distributing the land to others,” he said.
Saying that he repeatedly urged Maoist chief Prachanda to make an atmosphere for polls, he blamed that the Maoists are still using the polls as a means of threat.
He said that the CA polls will institutionalise the achievements of Jana Andolan II and ensure the rights of Madhesis, dalits, janajatis and indigenous community.
Koirala, who has filed his candidacy for the first-past-the-post elections from constituency no 3 in Banke district, said: “I have no personal interest. However, I am more concerned about the fate of the nation. I have been fighting for the establishment of democratic values in the nation.”
Saying that the government would not excuse anybody in the course of maintaining law and order, he said: “The government takes action against those breaching law and order even if they are NC cadres .”
Speaking at the programme, CPN-UML Banke secretary Devraj Bhar said he found that people are terrified due to the Maoist activities when he visited villages in the poll publicity campaign. The Maoist are involved in forcing people to join their party by offering vermilion on their foreheads in the villages, Bhar said.
