Sushil Koirala’s pet peeve comes to fore

Gaighat, November 11:

Acting president of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, said today that his party had been staying out of the government because of non-implementation of agreements.

“The NC is displeased because the CPN-Maoist has not bothered to return the seized property to the rightful owners. That is why, it decided to stay in the opposition.”

With a veiled threat to the ruling party, the NC stalwart said the party would not remain silent if anti-democratic activities continued. Koirala was speaking at a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union in Gaighat, the district headquarters of Udaypur. He is here to take part in a people’s awareness programme.

“The government will be blamed if the new constitution is not written on time,” he reasoned.

Stating that the NC does not want the government dissolved, Koirala called for the resolution of problems in an amicable manner.

He reiterated that politically-trained Maoist combatants cannot be integrated into the national army. Koirala said the combatants could be sent abroad for jobs, recruited as industrial security and border security personnel.

Commenting on another hot-button issue, he accused the UNMIN of not being transparent.
