SWC to bring out code of conduct for agencies
Kathmandu, August 4:
The newly-appointed member secretary of the Social Welfare Council (SWC), Sharad Sharma, said the SWC is preparing to introduce a code of conduct to regulate organisations working in the social sector. Sharma said that a lot of work needs to be done to bring out the code of the conduct, but added “the code of conduct will make the organisations more service-oriented with their transparency being checked through regular audit reports.”
Sharma, who took over the SWC responsibility on July 31, said extensive discussion and consultation with NGOs and INGOs will be undertaken. According to him, there are 18,200 NGOs presently registered under SWC. Sharma made it clear the code will not be directed at controlling any organisation, instead it will give continuity to previous SWC works and make forays into new sectors to make the SWC more effective. The new SWC committee comprises
vice-chairman Ram Narayan Shrestha, treasurer Manjuri Singh and members Dr Sangita Rayamajhi, Upendra Keshari Neupane, Pragya Raj Rajbhandari, Rakesh Hamal, Nara Bahadur Limbu, Amar Bahadur Gurung, Surya Mohan Bhattarai.
