Helvetas Nepal, with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), has provided immediate relief to flood-hit families in Bagmati and Koshi provinces, distributing essential supplies in collaboration with local governments.
As of the night of September 27, 2024, continuous rainfall has left numerous families still awaiting relief in Nepal. While some basic assistance has been provided by local governments, significant aid is yet to arrive. Local authorities are working closely with donor agencies to expedite the distribution of essential relief materials, according to the press release issued by the Helvetas Nepal said.
Following initial damage assessments in collaboration with local governments, Helvetas prioritized the most severely affected areas for aid distribution, it added.
In Panauti Municipality of Bagmati Province, Helvetas distributed food supplies, kitchen utensils, personal hygiene items, and bedding materials to 500 households. In Koshi Province's Phidim Municipality, 95 households received food and hygiene items, first aid kits, and 390 tarpaulins. Additionally, in Falelung Rural Municipality, 293 households were given food supplies, 40 households received kitchen utensils and hygiene items, and 586 tarpaulins were distributed.
This initial relief phase aims to address the immediate needs of affected families, with the total cost of distributed materials estimated at approximately Rs 15 million, the release further states.
