Taskforce gets three more days to study LBRC report

KATHMANDU: The taskforce formed to suggest the government on the purported revision of the report submitted by Local Body Restructuring Commission's report has been given three more days.

A meeting of the Cabinet on Tuesday, prior to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's address to the nation, made the decision to extend the taskforce's tenure.

The LBRC had submitted its report on January 6 suggesting creation of 719 local bodies across the country.  But several parties, including United Democratic Madhesi Front, have been protested the report and demanding its revision with determination of local bodies on the basis of population.

In order to resolve the concerns on local restructuring, the taskforce has been asked to submit its suggestions along with complaints received from others to the Cabinet after studying the LBRC report, according to Minister Hit Raj Pandey. He leads the three-member taskforce.
