Teachers seek security, shut school
Sindhupalchowk, October 1:
The Bangla Devi secondary school in Ghumthang VDC of Sindhupalchowk district has shut down after one Karsang Lama flaunted a loaded gun yesterday and threatened to kill school headmaster Harsh Narayan Jha.
After the incident, all the teachers rushed to the district headquarters seeking security.
Headmaster Jha said Lama brandished the weapon after a dispute arose over donation collection by the local Friendship Club, adding that the school had been closed to press for security for the teachers.
Jha said the club has been collecting donation from vehicles on Araniko Highway for the school. Lama flew into a lather when the school declined to put the official stamp on the donation receipts, said teachers.
Jha and four other teachers met chief district officer Kailash Nath Kharel. Jha said, “Teachers are being attacked everywhere. How can we work where there is no secuurity? We want to be transferred to another place.” CDO Kharel assured them of security and urged them to return to their workplace.
Earlier, on September 11 a guardian Netra Bahadur Pradhan had attacked a teacher of the school Mahendra Prasad Sharma and broken his arm. The school had shut down in protest for 11 days.
