Teams to launch poll-boycott drive

Kathmandu, January 12:

Vice-president of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, has urged the activists of the Nepal Tarun Dal (NTD), the youth wing of the party, to take the party’s decision of boycotting the King-announced local election as a “life-and-death” issue.

“This is our last war for the restoration of democracy,” a press release issued by the NTD quoted Koirala as saying at a meeting of the Nepal Tarun Dal, which was held here today.

NTD representatives from 12 constituencies of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had taken part in the meeting.

Different teams were formed with the objective of launching door-to-door campaigns and urging the people to boycott the elections because it came from the direct order of the King, which is unconstitutional.

A Sagarmatha zonal-level training programme of the NTD was also held in Lahan of Siraha district. Central committee member of the NC, Mina Pandey, chaired the programme, the release said. Sunil Karki was elected as the chairman of the NTD Biratnagar Committee at the programme.
