Telecommunication bypass fraud suspect held from Pokhara

POKHARA: Police here in Kaski district on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly operating an illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system.

The arrestee has been identified as Shiva Chandra Rokka (28) of Jang VDC-9 in Rukum district, currently living at Tulsi Marga in Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City-11.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of security personnel deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police and the Kaski District Police Office (DPO) arrested Rokka red-handed from his residence and seized a bypass mechanism device.

Meanwhile, police have filed a case against Rokka and proceeded with the further investigation.

A call bypass fraud makes mobile operators and telecom regulators lose considerable annual revenue with various equipment installed to terminate international inbound calls to local subscribers by deviating traffic away from the legal interconnect gateways.
