Temporary teachers close 350 community schools in Rautahat
RAUTAHAT: Around 350 community schools remained close in Rautahat for the second consecutive day on Friday due to the agitation of temporary teachers who are protesting the 8th amendment of Education Act 2073.
Hundreds of temporary teachers gathered in front of the District Education Office in Gaur and sat for dharna. They burned copies of form that the DEO distributed to the temporary teachers for competition for permanent posts.
With the amendment, the temporary teachers will not have to fight for permanent posts or accept retirement with a golden handshake scheme.
The Temporary Teachers Struggle Committee has called a shutdown of community schools in Rautahat from Thursday to Monday as the first phase of protest programme against the amendment.
Committee's coordinator, Tekman Yadav, claimed that the teachers had to resort to agitation as the government failed to implement the past agreements and amended the Education to relieve them from their duties now.
District Education Officer Hom Nath Subedi said the dharna, from 10 am to 5 pm, has partially affectd the DEO's work.
