Tenzing Hillary Airport failing to operate FIDS
SOLUKHUMBU: Passengers at the Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla of Solukhumbu district have been facing hardships as the flight information display system (FIDS) went dysfunctional.
The system informs the passengers about arrival and departure of the flights in real time.
The airport is the one of the busiest domestic airports in the country, which sees 80 to 90 flights daily during the peak season of tourism.
Due to high likelihood of cancellation of flights to and from Lukla, passengers are found curious about their flights inside the terminal building. However, the airport has been failing to notify the passengers about their flight time and respective planes.
A tourist guide, Nuru Sherpa, complained that the domestic and foreign passengers are always concerned about their flights and plane due to lack of notification.
The notification system remains out of operation for the past few years despite assurances from the airport management for resuming the services soon.
Apart from the passengers, aircraft companies are also facing difficulties to find their respective passengers in time.
