Thakur accuses govt of closing door to talks
Janakpurdham, Sept 6
Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur accused the government of shutting the door to dialogue and warned that the agitation in the plains would be decisive.
Speaking at a press meet organised in Janakpur, Thakur charged that the government had humiliated the sentiments of Madhes and Madhesi people by not addressing the agendas raised by them.
“We have been agitating for the past 22 days. The government has humiliated the Madhesi by not addressing their genuine demands,” Thakur alleged. He held that the government had displayed its undemocratic character by mobilising the army and APF in the plains.
Stating that their agitation had earned support and sympathy from India and the international community, Thakur warned that the constitution delivered through majority process would plunge the country into further conflict.
He said the agitation was not aimed at disintegrating the country. Stating that NC, UML and UCPN-Maoist had been betraying past agreements and understandings reached with Madhesi parties, Thakur said that implementation of those agreements would end their protest in the plains.
Hinting at Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic Party Chair Bijay Gachhadar, Thakur said that they would exclude people of dubious character from their front-United Democratic Madhesi Front.
He, however, said that front would hit the street in collaboration with Tharus, Muslims and other groups.
