Thakur condemns SC verdict
Janakpurdham, September 5
Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahant Thakur today condemned the Apex Court’s verdict to annul the second writ petition filed at the Supreme Court demanding withdrawal of the Nepal Army from riot-hit areas.
Irked by the decision, Thakur fiercely criticised the Apex Court’s verdict. Speaking at a press meet in Mahottari headquarters Jaleswor, Thakur accused SC of never issuing verdict in favour of Madhes and Madhesis. “The verdict is debatable. Any verdict either on language, attire, or Nepal Army has always been against Madhes and Madhesis,” Thakur said.
He held that the decision to implement eight-point agreement, 22-point agreement, and withdrawal of NA from riot-hit areas would help create conducive environment for talks. He accused the government of trying to turn Madhes into a battleground by mobilising the army.
Stating that the Constituent Assembly would not be able to promulgate a new constitution bypassing Madhes and Madhesis, Thakur warned of catastrophe if the new statute does not guarantee their rights. He warned that NC, UML and UCPN-Maoist would lose their ground in the plains if they betrayed the Madhesis.
