Tharu museum to add tourist attraction in Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR: Construction of a building in traditional style has been completed to establish a Tharu museum in Bhamkepani (Bhalka) of Shuklaphanta Municipality-8, in Kanchanpur district.

The building was constructed using wood and mud at a total cost of Rs 600,000, with more than Rs 400,000 worth of voluntary labour by the locals.

"The museum will house traditional ornaments of the Tharu community, goods related to their lifestyle and history, as well as agro tools," said the local ward chair Bahadur Mahara. The museum is expected to come into operation by next year.

Moreover, the ward has plans to build a water park, install solar-fed lamps and provide free Wi-Fi facilities. The road leading to the museum has already been surfaced with gravel.

The Bhamkepani area is already a tourist destination receiving around 3,500 tourists annually. It is also a popular picnic site for the locals. The area hosts a grand fair every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti.
