Thousands stranded as locals block highway at Kawasoti
Nawalparasi, December 22:
Thousands of passengers have been stranded in Nawalparasi after relatives of a person killed in a road mishap nearly a month ago obstructed the highway since 10 am today.
Demanding damages to the family of Koshraj Timilsina, who was hit to death by a car (Ba 5 Cha 3037) on November 23, locals and relatives obstructed the highway at Kawasoti.
Though a meeting between the car owner, victim’s representatives, district police chief Sarad Chand, MP Bamdev Chhetri and representatives of political parties had agreed on December 7 to provide Rs 540,000 compensation to the victim’s family within two weeks, the relatives obstructed the highway after the family did not get it in the said time.
Around 700 vehicles have been stranded at both ends of Kawasoti. After no attempt was made till evening to open the road, stranded passengers staged demonstration to open the road.
DSP Hari Wagle said the locals were not letting to open the road after car owner Radhika Katuwal, a Kathmandu denizen, denied to provide the compensation amount.
Meanwhile, locals of Mukundapur of Dhading also obstructed traffic on the highway today, demanding compensation to the family of Rajendra Adhikari who was killed in a bus-hit a month ago.
