SIRAHA, MAY 31

Siraha Police today made public three persons in connection with the murder of a man and his son in Arnama Rural Municipality, Siraha, last week.

Police have arrested Chandeshwor's daughter-inl-aw Shantidevi Pal and Bechu Pal, 65, of Ward No 4 of Golbazaar Municipality and Janif Miyan, 48, of Manaur in Ward No 1 of Arnama Rural Municipality on the charge of murdering of 60-year-old Chandeshwor Pal of Manaur, Ward No 1 of Arnama Rural Municipality, and his son Santa Kumar, aged 19.

The father-son duo was found murdered at 2:00am on May 22. They had been attacked with khukuri and had deep injuries on their head and neck.

According to SP Arjun Prasad Timsina of Siraha District Police Office, the murder was carried out over personal enmity.

"Santa Kumar was engaged and was going to marry a girl from Morang, but was murdered just three days before the marriage,"

SP Timsina said. "As learnt, there had been talk previously regarding the prospect of marriage between Bechu Pal's son and the girl, but the would-be-groom had refused to marry the girl citing her earlier marriage," Timsina added.

Police, citing their investigation, have further said that Bechu had planned to kill Santa Kumar and his father with the help of Santa Kumar's sister-in-law and Janif Miyan of Mahanaur itself.

Police said Bechu was unhappy that Santa Kumar was going to tie the knot with the girl who would bring a hefty dowry with her.

"His own son had refused to marry the already-married girl and Bechu was trying to convince him to marry her citing her father's offer to provide a prized land plot in Biratnagar and also build a house in that plot, but when he knew that Santa Kumar was going to marry the girl, he became unhappy and plotted to kill both the father and son," police said.

Further, police revealed that Bechu himself had carried out the murder on the morning of May 22 after Shantidevi and Janif didn't turn up as agreed earlier to execute the murder on the night. As learnt, Shantidevi was not in good terms with her in-laws and Janif was a friend of her husband, who had gone abroad for employment.

Police had used sniffer dogs and other advanced technology to track the murderers. According to police, a murder case has been filed against the arrested persons and investigation is under way.
