DHARAN, MAY 9

Police have arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of an elderly woman and subsequent looting of jewellery and cash from Dharan a week ago.

The arrested people had murdered Govind Maya Biswokarma, 84, and fled with jewellery and some cash. The arrested people were made public today.

A gang of robbers had barged into Biswokarma's home on the night of April 24, thrashed the woman severely and fled with cash and jewellery. Biswokarma died while undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar, nine days later.

The deceased's daughter-inlaw has filed murder and dacoity case against the arrested people with the police.

The deceased woman's son and daughter-in-law were away from home for religious prayers.

They had looted the woman of property worth Rs 1.1 million in total. The arrested are Bir Bahadur Pariyar, 38, Soni Rai, 35, and Laxmi Limbu, 29.
