Three houses, six cottages swept away, one killed in Jajarkot

Three houses and six cottages were swept away when the landslide-blocked Bheri river engulfed houses and cottages in Jajarkot and Rukum.

“The river has been blocked after a part of a hill in Tallubagar collapsed on the river after incessant rainfall and blocked its usual course. Three houses in Tallubagar of Nalgad Municipality, Jajarkot;  and six cottages in Gotamkot of Athbiskot, Rukum, were swept away,” said a local Amar Basnet.

“As the river was blocked, the water level rose and the swollen river breaching the bank got the houses,” he said, addingthat  houses belonging to Kabhabindra Bahadur Basnet, Kaka Bahadur Basnet and Tikaram Khatri in Tallubagar were swept away.

According to Chairperson of Ward No 12 Lal Bahadur Khatri, Nalgad Municipality, around 23 houses are at high risk of being swept away. Those whose houses were swept away and those whose houses are at high risk are staying with their kin.

In another incident, a youth was swept away while trying to cross Mulkhola at Danepipal of Nalgad Municipality in Jajarkot. The deceased has been identified as Umesh Shahi, 40, of Nalgad Municipality. Likewise, a house belonging to Ratna Bahadur basnet of Nalgad collapsed due to incessant heavy rain. However, no casualty was reported.

Similarly, eight water mills were swept away by the flooded Sangtakhola at Kainabazaar of Nalgad.
