BAJURA, JANUARY 3

Three children have been left in a lurch after their father went missing and their mother married another man in Budhinanda Municipality, Bajura.

Locals said that the kids became helpless after their mother abandoned them. They said that Tapendra BK, 9, Rajesh BK, 5, and Jenisha BK, 3, are helpless. Their father Kamal has been out of contact for the last three years after he went to Qatar for foreign employment.

Family members said that Kamal was in contact for three months, but he went out of contact after that.

A local, Rangamal BK, said the kids' mother Kalpana married another man four months ago, leaving the children in the lurch.

Though, the grandparents are trying the help the kids, they are not able to take full care of their children. The elderly couple are facing problems feeding the kids.

They said that they have been feeding the kids with the old age allowance they get from the government, but it is not enough to feed the five members.

Tapendra is a third grader at the local school, while his brother is in pre-primary class in the locality.

The couple said they had problems purchasing school uniform and education materials, among others essentials.

They further added that the whole family became helpless after their son went out of contact and their daughter-in-law eloped with another man. The couple urged the government to search for their son, but has yet to ascertain his whereabouts.

The members belong to a freed haliya family. They have nothing except a small hut. They run the family ploughing the field of the landlord. Severe cold has added to the woes of the children and the old couple as they do not have money to buy warm clothes.

They are compelled to spend the cold nights with summer clothes. Nine-year-old Tapendra said that the clothes they were wearing were donated by people in the village.
