SIRAHA, JANUARY 3

Nepali Congress Siraha District Working Committee has asked the government to take stern action against former district police chief SP Hira Bahadur Pande.

NC Siraha District Working Committee President Ramchandra Yadav and Secretary Upendra Kumar Yadav jointly issued a statement today seeking action against the officer who was transferred from the district recently.

According to sources, Pande had gone to NC district President Yadav's home at Zero Mile of Dhangadhimai Municipality last night and abused and threatened to shoot him if he got him transferred from the district.

The press statement mentioned that SP Pande had even trained his pistol at Yadav, while issuing threats against his life. As he threatened Yadav, personnel from the nearest police office put Pande inside a police vehicle and took him away; the statement reads.

Police, a few days ago, had arrested two persons for murder.

They have been remanded to custody. According to SP Pande, NC leader Yadav had pressured him to release the arrested persons.

SP Pande denied that he had gone to Yadav's home over the issue of his transfer.

CDO Lalababu Kawari of Siraha said he only knew that Pande had been out on patrol.

"I don't know much about the incident," he said.

SP Pande had come to Siraha just six months ago. After Pande's transfer to police headquarters, SP Arjun Timilsina has replaced him.
