BARA, FEBRUARY 15

Police have arrested three persons, including Simraungadh Municipality Administrative Officer, for forgery.

Besides the municipal chief administrative officer Hariom Jayasawal, Account Officer Sarbendra Chaudhary and Planning Officer Jitendra Yadav have also been arrested for forging the signature of absent members of a town assembly held in June last year.

Deputy Mayor Rimadevi Kushawaha and four others, who were absent in the meeting, had filed a complaint, saying their signatures were forged. "We've picked up the three officers for investigation," said Bara District Police Office spokesperson DSP Gautam Mishra.

"We're investigating the case by keeping them in custody with a remand from the court," said DSP Mishra.

Of the total 60 executive members, a majority of them were absent when the town assembly convened. Regarding the forgery, deputy mayor and four others had filed an FIR against Mayor Bijaya Shankar Yadav and the three officers six weeks ago. Police have released Yadav on date.

Police had sent the signatures to Kathmandu for test, which confirmed that one of the signatures was forged while signatures in the name of the deputy mayor and three others were doubtful.

If convicted, those behind forgery can face up to seven years in prison and Rs 70,000 in fine.
