KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 9

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, on the recommendation of the government, today appointed Parshuram Khapung, Tilak Pariyar, and Devraj Joshi as governors of Province 1, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, respectively.

Khapung hails from Tehrathum district, whereas Pariyar and Joshi are from Banke and Bajura, respectively. The president has also relieved the incumbent governors of Province 1, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim as per the government's decision.

A Cabinet meeting held yesterday recommended Parshuram Khapung, Tilak Pariyar, and Devraj Joshi as governors of Province 1, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, respectively.

Khapung, Pariyar, and Joshi were proposed for the job by Janata Samjbadi Party-Nepal, CPN-Maoist Centre, and the Nepali Congress, respectively.

Pariyar was the governor of Province 2, but was sacked by the Oli government; Joshi had represented the Nepali Congress in the first Constituent Assembly from Bajura-1 constituency, whereas Khapung was associated with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party before joining Naya Shakti Party in 2016. Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Party later merged with Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal.

The Oli government had appointed Somnath Adhikari 'Pyasi' as the governor of Province 1, Govinda Prasad Kalauni as governor of Karnali, and Ganga Prasad Yadav as governor of Sudurpaschim.

They were relieved of their duties today.

Earlier, the Sher Bahadur Deuba government had replaced governors of Bagmati, Province 2, Gandaki, and Lumbini.

New governments have been replacing governors appointed by the previous government.

The Oli government had also replaced governors appointed by the Deuba government.
