Tough electoral battle in store for senior leaders in Morang

Senior leaders of political parties are contesting the provincial and parliamentary elections from Morang.

A tough competition between the left and democratic alliances lies ahead in Morang though the parties are yet to finalise candidates.

Shekhar Koirala from Nepali Congress and Lal Babu Pandit from the left alliance are expected to fight for the parliamentary seat in Constituency 6. Koirala had won two elections earlier from the constituency while Pandit is contesting the election for the first time from the constituency.

Some new faces from the NC and left alliance will be contesting for the House of Representatives election in Constituency No 3 in Morang. Dr Sunil Sharma, proprietor of Nobel College, from the NC and Bhanubhakta Dhakal from the left alliance were recommended as  candidates for the polls. Dhakal has worked in the central level of the UML, while Sharma is contesting the election for the first time.

Likewise, Shiva Kumar Mandal from the left alliance and Amrit Aryal from the NC may be contesting the parliamentary election in Constituency No 5.

Dig Bahadur Limbu from the NC and Ghanashyam Khatiwada from the left alliance will be contesting for the parliamentary seat in Constituency No 1. Rishikesh Pokharel from the left alliance and Minendra Rijal from the NC will be contesting for the House of Representatives election from Constituency No 1 in Morang. Pokhrel had won the previous election while Rijal is contesting for the first time under the first-past-the post category in Morang.

NC’s Mahesh Acharya is the candidate for parliamentary polls from Constituency No 4 of the district.
