Traffic police start new campaigns

With the arrival of festivals, District Traffic Police Office, Kaski, has started various proactive campaigns aiming to curb accidents during the festival period across the district.

Carrying passengers beyond the vehicle’s capacity on rural roads causes many accidents. SI Shiva Thapa of District Traffic Police Office, Kaski, said teams were deployed on rural road sections to take action against vehicle operators carrying passengers beyond vehicle’s capacity and those who overcharge passengers during the festival period.

Chief at District Traffic Police Office, Kaski, Bishwo Adhikari said such campaigns would minimise road accidents during the festivals. Adhikari added that case would also be filed against those driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

As many as 99 road accidents were recorded in the fiscal of 2015-16, in which, 58 persons lost their lives and 73 were critically injured in the district. At least eight persons died and 15 others were critically injured in 19 road accidents in August and September in Kaski.
