KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 8

The Mechi Highway, blocked for five days due to landslides, has reopened for traffic as of this evening.

Vehicular movement resumed after the reconstruction of the road section near Maikhola in Ilam Municipality-9, Ilam district.

Chief of Ilam Police, Prabhu Prasad Dhakal, stated that small vehicles and two-wheelers have already started reaching their destinations after the obstructions were cleared.

Dhakal added that large vehicles and loaded trucks will be allowed to use the road section based on the road's condition by Wednesday afternoon.

With traffic resuming, dozens of stranded vehicles have now continued to their destinations. Dhakal also noted that obstructions along the Ilam-Rajduwali section have been cleared.
